A New Year!

And new things for M.photo! January brought with it a new product launch, The Legacy Portrait, a few portrait sessions, and a new brand collaboration. The Legacy Portrait was something I had been developing for the better part of 2020 and was finally able to reveal in January. I'm pleased with the reception it has had. It is something I have been excited about for a while and it is a welcoming relief to see others excited about it too! It is true that the Legacy Portrait is unique from the other services I offer. Its a bit more formal and is definitely more specialized, but I kind of love it for those things. 2020 was a year where our fancy clothes gathered dust and special occasions were hard to come by and so I love the idea of reacting against that. Let 2021 be the year where we make up our own reasons for getting dressed up again and make an effort to give definition to our days. March booking for the Legacy Portrait has closed and there are only a few more sessions available for April, so shoot me a message if you'd like to book your Legacy Portrait soon!

January is notoriously slow for portrait sessions. Around here the weather is pretty blah with most days being overcast and a lot of the scenery going dormant with the colder temperatures. Despite this I did manage to squeak out a few portrait sessions and you know what? They were made more precious, the moments sweeter. I absolutely love it when extra family and grandparents are included in a session. I always maintained a close relationship to my grandparents and I love to see how happy and excited a grandparent is holding their grandchild. I know what they're feeling and I know how loved their grandchild is going to feel. It is also the juxtaposition of age reflecting the long legacy of humans here on Earth that gets me. I think these two elements together make for a really important image.

Finally, I had the pleasure of meeting with and collaborating with a local business! They'll be launching a new website and social media account later this month so I can't say too much until then but it was a blast taking photos for them. I got to work creatively and use a different set of skills I haven't had the chance to use in a while. Families and child portraits will always be my first love but I greatly enjoy the change of pace and the chance to collaborate on a project creatively and bring a vision to life! Those endeavors are always invigorating and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work on something locally owned. I've got another branding session coming up in February, again another locally owned, female owned, small business and I am really excited for that too. Speaking of February -- it has its own projects on deck and I've got another little out of town trip planned as well. I'm looking forward to this next month of photos!

P.S. Scroll to the bottom for a little peek at what else I've been keeping "busy" with this month!
