There’s something about a slow weekend morning at home that just works—no rushing, no pressure, just everyone settling into their natural rhythm. This backyard session was exactly that.
We kept things simple: a short 30-minute window, a relaxed start, and space for the kids to lead the way. As soon as I arrived, they were already outside with the dogs—running, laughing. There were big hugs around furry necks, little hands reaching up to throw arms around each other, and that easy kind of joy that doesn’t much direction.
The dogs, of course, were more than happy to participate—sticking close, hoping for extra snacks, soaking up the attention. In between it all, a few chickens wandered through the yard, completely unfazed. The kids proudly told me all about how they help take care of them—feeding them, checking on them, making sure they’re safe. It was such a natural part of their day, and it showed. We paused briefly for a handful of family photos—everyone gathered in, close and connected. Just a moment together in-between before the kids were off again, back to playing..
And that’s really the heart of sessions like this. Letting go of the idea that everything has to be perfectly arranged, and instead leaning into what already exists. The movement, the noise, the in-between moments. The way your kids hug a little tighter when they’re not being asked to.
Thirty minutes, your own backyard, and a whole lot of real life—that’s more than enough.
